Thoughts from Rachael

I have the privilege and opportunity to experience Colombia a few times a year, due to being the founder and coordinator of Footprints with Hope. For me, I learn and grow through every trip because each one has a unique focus. I hope the day never arrives when I stop being challenged and changed by the people and experiences.

I do not take it for granted that I am able to spend a few weeks a year immersed in the culture. I have many of my own thoughts crashing against my heart like the ocean waves crash against the shore, but today my friend Randy will be sharing below.

One element of taking teams which I love is seeing Colombia through fresh eyes. While I never tire of it and I don’t *think* I ever let it grow old or callous, seeing it through new eyes helps me discover a new element I perhaps hadn’t thought of or haven’t seen in my own perspective. So today… we let Randy share from his heart and experience. I am so thankful that we were able to be together for a week serving, seeing, laughing, crying and sharing.

From the heart of Randy

*words from Randy Johnson*

I didn’t know what to expect going to Colombia. I’ve heard plenty of people tell me their perspectives, but you don’t really get it until you’re there and experience it for yourself! This trip has forever changed me. I saw Christ in may other people and witnessed beautiful acts. The hardest part for me was coming back and hearing all the complaints of us as U.S. citizens.

What I (Randy) saw

The people of Colombia live in difficult circumstances every day and yet they were so welcoming and happy that we were there! The Colombians were full of so much positivity and love. Honestly, it’s a bittersweet experience. Although the people lack materiel items, they make up for it with golden hearts, love and kindness. The kids were so happy to have an adult to pass ball with or play soccer. I loved how they make the best of what they have- they are very resourceful!

I will return

I realized how much work still needs to be done to help them. They are not asking for video games or a flat screen TV- they are asking for clean water, a check-up from a doctor, medicine and basic necessities. Every human deserves what they are needing and I will forever work towards helping that goal be reached.

I miss it already and cannot wait to go back to continue making a difference. Thanks for the opportunity to serve!- Randy

If you want to go with us in the future, we are already planning trips for July and late September of 2025. Reach out at https://www.footprintswithhope.org/get-involved/
